Professional Airboat Training

National and Florida-approved training options.

Our airboat training experience spans more than 16 years and is rooted in a Department of the Interior-based operator course developed by Gary Hill through his work in marine and watercraft safety.

That training foundation has been used for years in the United States and internationally. Marker 16 continues that legacy through hands-on instruction, professional course materials, practical operator evaluation, and a safety standard built around real-world operations.

  • Florida-specific legal requirements
  • Practical operator exercises
  • Operator evaluation
  • Course documentation and completion records
Program History

A training program that helped shape Florida’s airboat operator standard.

Randy HillFirst approved provider of Florida’s commercial airboat operator course.

The airboat operator training lineage behind Marker 16 predates Florida’s modern commercial airboat training requirements.

The original program was developed by Gary Hill through his Department of the Interior marine safety work and became the basis for years of hands-on airboat operator training.

When Florida moved to establish formal training standards for commercial airboat operators, Randy Hill and the training organization behind Marker 16 were invited to Tallahassee to present the Department of the Interior-based course material already being used in the field.

With permission, that existing curriculum was accepted as an operational foundation for the Florida course structure. Florida-specific boating laws, regulatory requirements, and additional practical elements were then incorporated so providers could meet the State’s standards.

Today, that same training lineage continues through Marker 16 Safety Consulting.
Hands-On Training Is the Standard

Certification should represent demonstrated competency.

Marker 16 airboat training is not a presentation-only course. Professional classroom material establishes operating principles, hazards, legal requirements, and safety expectations. Those concepts are then reinforced through hands-on practical training.

Operators work directly with the vessel and are expected to demonstrate the skills necessary to operate safely.

Beyond Initial Certification
